MULETHI/LIQORICE ROOTS

SCIENTIFIC NAME: GLYCYRRHIZA GLABRA

UNIQUNESS: A perennial plant 50cm to 1 m high or more erect found in Pakistan, Afhagnistan. The plant thruces in a dry, sunny climate and in deep moist soil, particularly on the banks of rivers subject to periodical inundation. It is prescribed for the treatment of asthma,hepatitis, usueful for the piles, fever, lung affections.

Improves immunity – Root extracts of mulethi aids in increasing the production of lymphocytes and macrophage thereby improving your defense mechanism & preventing microbial attack.

Memory improvement – Roots of licorice exert supportive effect on the adrenal gland and thus indirectly aid in stimulating the brain. It not only decreases the effects of amnesia & improves learning.

Heart healthy effects – Research studies have proved that licorice roots help in controlling cholesterol levels by increasing the body’s flow of bile and also reducing high blood cholesterol levels.

APPLICATION: It is widely used as a flavoring agent in sweets, chewing gum, toothpaste and beverages like soft drinks and beer.

JALAPA ROOTS

SCIENTIFIC NAME: EXOGONIUM PURGA BENTH

UNIQUNESS: It has purgative action and is used in constipation, pain and colic in the bowels and general intestinal torpor. Jalap forms a safe purge for children, being given in sugar or jam to disguise the taste, and has been used thus with calomel or wormwood as a vermifuge. It proves an excellent purge in rheumatism.

TASTE AND ODOR: First Sweetish afterwards acrid, slight smoky

SIDE EFFECTS: May cause headache with warm temperament.

APPLICATION: Jalapa roots are considered to be such an effective antispasmodic that they are used in syrup to treat epilepsy. A simple boiled tea of the roots is used for less severe conditions, like spastic diarrhea, menstrual cramps, and general hysteria.

QUTH SHIRIN/ COSTUS ROOT

SCIENTIFIC NAME:  SAUSSUREA LAPPA

UNIQUNESS: It is prescribed for the treatment of visceral organs and muscular weakness. Moreover, urine retention, chest pain,  stomach and intestine weakness.

TASTE AND ODOR: bitter, sweet, aromatic

APPLICATION: Can be applied with honey and vinegar on face for freckles and hair growth. Mixed with olive oil it is used for asthma treatment of gouth, chorea, paralysis.

Mixed with other formulations it is being used for headaches, deafness, uclears and general weakness.

QUTH TALKH/ COSTUS

SCIENTIFIC NAME: AUCKLANDIA COSTUS

UNIQUNESS: Costus contain essential oil. The main components are betulin, Costus lactone, alpha-ionone, alpha-and beta-costene. It is very effective for turning grey hair into black. Traditionally, the herb was used to make incense or to protect clothes from moths and other insects.

TASTE AND ODOR: pungent and bitter in taste and warm

APPLICATION: Widely used in making perfumes.

RATANJOT/ ALKANNA ROOT

SCIENTIFIC NAME: Alkanna Tinctoria

UNIQUINESS: It is traditionally used to add color to Indian food. It is the original natural food coloring that gives the famous Kashmiri dish Rogan Josh its signature red color.

APPLICATION: Used as dye

TASTE AND ODOR: Spicy

USHBAH/SARSAPARILLA ROOTS

SCIENTIFIC NAME: HEMIDESMUS INDICUS

UNIQUNESS: Sarsaparilla is used for treating psoriasis and other skin diseases, rheumatoid arthritis(RA), and kidney disease; for increasing urination to reduce fluid retention; and for increasing sweating. Sarsaparilla is also used along with conventional drugs for treating leprosy and for syphilis.
Athletes sometimes use sarsaparilla as a steroid for performance enhancement or bodybuilding.

APPLICATION:  ADDED IN BEVERAGES, PROTEIN SHAKES.

KAKRASINGH/ ZEBRAWOOD

SCIENTIFIC NAME: Pistacia integerrima

UNIQUNESS: Its powder is used for medicinal purpose in Ayurveda and folk medicine. It is astringent, expectorant, anti-asthmatic, anti-dysenteric, and styptic.Karkatashringi is used in Ayurveda in treatment of cough, asthma, bronchitis, phthisis, catarrhal fever, enlarged glands and externally on obstinate skin diseases, bleeding gums, epistaxis, leucorrhea, and other mucous discharges. Analgesic: acting to relieve pain.Anti-asthmatic treat or prevent asthma attacks.Anti-inflammatory  Reducing inflammation by acting on body mechanisms.

APPLICATION: Used in Herbal remedy medicines.

ASROL/ SERPENTINE WOOD

SCIENTIFIC NAME: Rauwolfia serpentina Benth

UNIQUINESS: Asrol is a potent anti-hypertensive herb actually its alkaloid reduces the heart rate and thus reduces the high blood pressure. It is very much useful in Insomnia and useful in mental disordersis having antibacterial property
